The Annual Parish Meeting takes place in April, where all electors are invited to take part in local affairs. The Chairman, Councillor Wilkins, reported a year of success and old reoccurring issues. They include; The problem with speeding traffic through Long Whatton, despite traffic calming measures put in place by Leicestershire County Council, the nuisance parking in Diseworth caused by airport users and Dog fouling on Public Footpaths! He thanked the editorial groups from both Long Whatton News and The Diseworth Dialogue for their continued hard work and determination and mentioned how successful village events had been throughout the year. Cllr Wilkins also thanked the Clerk and members of the Parish Council for all their hard work during the past year.
The Parish Council meeting followed shortly after, the police figures for this month are;
Diseworth:
1 x Theft from motor vehicle - diesel siphoned from fuel tank of arctic lorry parked in lay-by on the A42.
2 x Fraud - person fills up with fuel, then drives off with no attempt to pay.
Both of these crimes occurred at MOTO Service station, however they come under Diseworth.
Long Whatton:
1 x Theft from motor vehicle - diesel siphoned from fuel tank of arctic lorry parked in lay-by.
1 x Burglary Dwelling - unknown persons smash rear patio door, items taken.
1 x Theft from motor vehicle - window smashed, Sat Nav stolen.
1 x Theft - insecure trailer stolen from rear garden.
Total crimes 7
The Parish Council are working hard to try and combat dog fouling on public footpaths and are currently in the process of obtaining prices and possible locations for dog bag dispensers, in the hope this reduces the problem.
After writing to the Independent Consultative Committee (ICC) at EMA re: The Collapse of the AARPC and the Parish Council still wanting representation at the Airport, the Parish Council received a letter explaining that individual Parish Councils are unable to have a seat on the committee. However, Leicestershire and Rutland Association of Local Councils and District Council are members on the ICC. The Parish Council feels, as Diseworth boarders the airport, they should be allowed more of a say and want to remain having a voice. In the meantime the Parish Council are going to liaise with the LRALC to gain updates and report to them before ICC meetings with any issues, so they can act on the Parish Councils behalf.
Another major point discussed was the lack of notice taken on Parish Council's views on planning issues. The Parish Council take a lot of time studying the planning applications and know the local area well, but feel their views are just ignored by North West Leicestershire District Council. The Parish Council are going to write to the MP highlighting their concerns, hoping for the system to be improved.
